I am an expert on vacations. Mostly because I am convinced that I am living in one 365 days a year (I take a day off to relax on leap year.) The criticism that I most often get is that I smile too much, and a friend recently described my personality as an odd mix of “puppies, sparkles, rainbows, and stickers.” Lucky for you, I’m willing to share my secrets.
When I talk to people on the phone about a potential language class, I often get asked where does the language come from? Not as in where do babies come from, but more meaning what regional specialty is the language that we teach. Is my teacher from South America or Spain? Do they know Egyptian Arabic or Modern Arabic? The answer is simple – it is all the same when you are first learning to communicate.
There are definitely verb tenses, conjugations, and patterns of speech that differ between each area, in the same way that a Brooklyn gangster will sound different than a Southern Belle from Georgia. However, a gun wearing mobster and a prom queen in cowgirl boots can still communicate using the same basic words.
